I missed my bus so I pulled a cab instead to get home fast as my stomach is grumbling and crying out for food. Inside, the cab driver began explaining why he was not able to turn his overhead sign to green (meaning for hire) and that he almost went pass me. He was fuming and giving out harsh comments on those 5 people who called him out for a ride. He keeps talkin and talking and I’m just answering “yeah, yeah, yeah” with a deep sigh and whispering “can you just drive and take me home please?”
Here in SG, strictly only 4 passengers max are allowed in a taxi. Unlike in other countries, as long as there’s room to fit more passengers in one cab, and as long as the driver doesn’t mind, most people will take advantage. The issue is not whether the driver would agree or the taxi could accommodate, but the LAW. Not many countries follow their law like how people in SG does. This is good and depicts how disciplined their citizens are. Talking about discipline, I think the idea of their government is to demonstrate to people how serious they are in chastising people living in their soil who will be violating their laws. Imagine paying $300 for littering or being caned plus imprisoned for other serious offenses.
It leads me to thinking why can’t other countries be like this? Is it because this country is so small and can be easily managed? Or there are just a lot of hardheaded individuals that’s why other countries finds it difficult to implement such?
Well, I believe “fear and respect” is what creates disciplined beings. When our parents need to discipline us, they may try different ways (could be gentle or stiff, depending on how hardheaded we are, hehe) to remind us of the rules and who’s in charge while making sure we understand that it’s for our own good.
Anyhow, at least I'm home now and my stomach full!! 'need to hit the bed now.

Life Blog: Mother Nature plays and crashes the net? |
I flew back to my home country to celebrate Christmas there with my loving family. I had fun although it was just a short vacation, as I need to head back here in SG for the yearend support. Gees :(
Anyhow, just after Christmas a powerful quake (with a magnitude of 7.1) hit southwestern Taiwan, which might have potentially caused tsunami hitting its neighboring countries. Thank God it didn’t happen. It was the same date, Dec 26, when a devastating tsunami hit Phuket two years ago.
Now, Mother Nature played with the internet by crashing through undersea cables. This has disrupted major communication lines in Taiwan and the internet traffic across Asia-Pacific.
With this kind of natural disaster striking from the sea, the impact is not just on land-structures within the affected areas, it can also cause havoc and major loses across different countries especially if comm. lines, power lines, and net connections gets busted. Kinda scary…

Life Blog: 'tis the season.. |
I just got home. I went out had some fellowship with friends. 'Just played pool with 'em then visited couple other friends.
I ran some errands & hadn’t actually finished much of my chores and yet I already felt somewhat bushed. This seems to be a pretty tiring weekend (well, what's new?!?).
The streets are gettin busy, some people are shopping for gifts, Christmas jingles bein played everywhere, and my fidgety body calling out for a kitkat break. Although not everyone celebrates Christmas, I believe this season is much more exciting than other holidays. Others have already gone decorating their houses with lanterns and colorful dazzling lights (even as early as September -- those who got used to garnishing their houses with warm & lovely decors as the month hits “ber”,hehe). I love this holiday season because people tend to enjoy giving & sharing and they become more creative. December is always the busiest month as it marks the end of the year, at the same time we prepare to welcome the brand new year. What gift should I get for my loved ones? What have I accomplished the past months? What do I plan to achieve this coming year? These are the typical questions we ask ourselves as we observe this holiday season.
Ahhh, weekend is over and I hate to think I need to get up early again to start with my stressful work. Anyway, its part of my routine so I must go now..

Life Blog: Decisions |
This we make each day. In all facets of life we will always make choices. There are simple ones, but a lot of times it’s complicated. You may find it easy to make decision sometimes, but the intricacy lies in putting it to work.
As you get up in the morning you are already tested to make simple decisions, such as what to have for breakfast or what to wear for the day (unless you’ve already planned these ahead, in which you still dealt with decision-making task). Even if you’ve listed all grocery items to get (well, most of us list ‘em just to help manage the budget apart from making sure we don’t forget buyin replacement for that heavily squeezed toothpaste, hehe), more often than not, we’re still caught in a tight spot on what to throw in our cart. Or perhaps you’re wedged in a dilemma on which gift to buy for your special friend’s birthday. These are just plain and simple day-to-day decisions we do. But what if it’s a life changing decision? Ahh.. spare me some time to think things over please! :)
It’s tough, it’s disconcerting, it’s bloodcurdling, it’s tiring (esp. if you’ve spent several sleepless nights thinking haphazardly about the best choice to make), and it’s as if you want to pull someone and hurl it over to that person so you can break free your mind from it. Decisions like opting to work abroad away from your family and friends, or resigning from work, or settling down, or filing a divorce can be very stressful. These are examples of life-changing decisions. And these requires careful thought, your family & friends’ advices, and Divine intervention. A sound decision entails facts as well, that’s why listing the problem and all your options down really help a lot. In court, the Judge, Attorneys and the Jurors conduct several sessions until the person being tried is proven guilty (or not), then the verdict is carried out.
What makes it difficult, I suppose, is that most of us are afraid of what will be the consequences if in case the end-result is the opposite of what we’re expecting. We normally call this “bad decisions”. We are prone to making bad decisions if we decide too quickly -- doing it without carefully spending some time assessing the situation (or probably when we’re under emotional stress). Some blame themselves for making an awful choice while others just tries to live on with the choice they made and noting that they don’t plummet on the same trap if they stumble upon similar circumstances. On the other hand, it’s easy to say if you’ve made the right decision because you’ll definitely find yourself giggling with satisfaction and utterly proud about the outcome. Putting our decisions to work requires faith, which we seriously doubt oftentimes as we are filled with “what ifs”. I believe our decision-making principle somewhat defines our maturity. Yes we make wrong choices but we can learn from them. And if the choice we’ve made turns out to be okay, we gain extra self-confidence. =)
Why am I writing about this? Because my job contract will end soon, and I have been asking myself how should I decide. Yes this is one of the life-changing decisions for me because I need to consider my family and depend my future plans on it. Although I know my priorities and I have identified the problem (the stress factors at work which almost led me to resign a few weeks back), my options aren’t clear still. Also, I’m still contemplating on what I might be leaving behind and what lies ahead. It’s challenging and at the same time nerve-racking.
Truly, it’s easy to give counsel to a friend asking help in coming out with good decision, but when you’re the one in the situation of making a life-changing choice, I would definitely say it’s tough and troublesome! Do you agree?

Life Blog: Wishin' for November Rain.. |
I was tempted to write about what happened the other night at work where I had to stay up from 1:00am 'til mid afternoon. But I realised I promised myself that i'll dismiss work from my mind as soon as I get home :)
Anyhow, last Friday when my friend and I stepped out of the office building, we were dazed to see the cloudy atmosphere. The air smelled burnt wood/trees. We guessed it's probably due to a huge fire that broke in the city (we're 30 minutes away from the city, btw). When I arrived home, I searched the net for any news about earlier fire which could've had caused the haze. The report says it was due to the rainforest fire in Indonesia, specifically within the province of Kalimantan, Borneo -- western Indonesia, but within Southern part of Asia. This indonesian province was labeled 3rd or 4th largest island in the world which is covered largely by dense of forest. The wind was blowing across Sumatra, no wonder the thick smoke reached Singapore (see encircled in below map). I have learned to love being in Singapore because of the clean environmnt, ease of commuting, and the feeling of being safe even if you're walking down the streets late in the evening (but I think I will never get used to their food -- they're soo spicy and everythin tastes almost the same, sorry about this -- perhaps I just miss eating diff'rent varieties). This haze had turned Singapore's clean air to a gloomy atmosphere for a few days now. This is the time when people here will be praying for rains to come :)

Life Blog: Being workaholic |
When can we tell if a person is guilty of being workaholic?
Workaholic, as defined generally, is the person with a compulsive need to work. Compulsive? That's synonymous to obsessive! And when a person is obsessed onto something, this means that 'thing' is becoming his/her priority. Well, sometimes this happens to me.. my work my top priority. I even tend to skip dinner just to finish what I have written in my ToDo list. OMG, does this mean i'm obsessed at my job?! ..nah, I don't think so, hehe.
I can classify workaholics into two categories: (1) those devoted to work because of a need, and (2) those who work some extra hours because they simply love what they're doing.
For the former, I believe this category involves primarily of a commitment. You are either committed to performing beyond your capacity because you aspire, for example, to become your company's president one day (hehe, I know someone who does) OR you are committed to doubling your effort because you want to double your earnings for your family (or to someting you plan to acquire). These people are those who burn eyebrows just fulfill what they have committed to do. I think I belong to this category =)
While the second type are those who dedicate themselves to work because they just loovvee what they're doing. These are the 'certified' workaholics! Some may file for a leave (or be asked to use up their earned vacation leaves because they don't even get sick!) BUT will still be logging from home to work. gees! what are these people?! There are also those who really tries to find something to do though their boss would rather request them to have some break -- probably spend quality time with their families and friends, or just to have some good rest. (Well, the boss wants you off the office for a while don't you realize? hehe)
So, which category do you belong? Remember, if you happen to be consistently spending more hours at work than the usual ..then you are a candidate of being workaholic!
